Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Planes, Trains and Automobiles are so boring.  Southeast Asia will have many more options available for travel which is quite amazing since our city, Spokane, offers no public transportation within a mile of our home.  We will have choices of buses, cycle drivers (bicycles with carriers for passengers-very environmentally friendly but tiring I am sure), tuk tuk (motorized rickshaws), xe loi (wagon pulled by motorbike) and xe lam (three wheeled trucks?).  I must take photos of these while we are there and check our travel insurance exclusions!

And, if getting around will not be difficult enough, we will need to carry our medical disaster pack.  I am very superstitious and am hopeful that if we plan well, we will not get sick.  One must question one's sanity when the amount of medical supplies exceeds the bulk of the luggage.  So, our packing list looks something like this:  pepto bismal tabs, imodium AD, tylenol, antibiotics, malaria tabs, antifungal creme, benadryl, tylenol, ibuprofen, oral rehydrates, steriod creme, ......

One must question one's sanity....

We are also becoming acquainted with travel shots:  DTP boosters, polio boosters, hep A, hep B, typhoid, etc.  We will try not to think about the untreatable and horrid exotic diseases (dengue, encephalitis) and parasitic infections that are unlikely to occur but rather the adventure that is ahead of us.
