Just a quick one on Lima, arrived late last night and hopped in the taxi and figured I was in for an interesting drive when I saw the Jesus handle was hanging by a thread.. drive wasn’t too bad actually and quite surprising to drive along what was like the strip in Las Vegas with lots of big casinos and American chain stores..

Bit of a sleep then a wander around the colonial centre of town - very dodgy neighbourhood, but beautiful buildings and wide streets (compared to Quito).  The drive into and from town explained the missing Jesus handle however as there was not only a mysterious extra lane, there was a generally creative use of non-existent space.. good thing they are mostly old cortinas (if you ever wondered where they go to die, it’s Lima Peru..).

I knew i was in trouble when i saw the jesus handle was hanging by a thread..

Visited the San Francisco cathedral and got an amazing tour of the building and catacombs (including lots and lots of bones..creepy..)  The building was stunning with a beautiful old library, with all these 13th century books wide open to the elements.. as were the outdoor paintings in the courtyard and hidden frescos.. stunning building, but in such poor repair and only the barest attempt at conservation (a couple of ropes near anything made of gold or silver).

Also enjoyed my first (second, third..) pisco sour, very very nice.. :-)

Off to the Amazon jungle tomorrow - apparently deep fried tarantulas are nice.. ??

Random observation

There are a lot of camel toes here... I even saw one on a store mannequin?!
