I got off of the train in Bled, and realized I had no ideao where my hostel was, where I was in relation, for sure if I was at the right spot, nothing.  Way to start off the trip...So I walk around for a while.  Figure out that I'm finding nothing, so I go back to the station and start walking the opposite direction, and I come to a train crossing.  I lean against the railing and start dazing off, all of a sudden a lady rolls down her window and starts yelling something in Slovene at me.  After I give her a blank stare, she yells "where are you going"  So I yell back "to the lake" and she tells me to hop in the car.  Ummm OK!

This woman tells me that my hostel is about 5k away, and some parts aren't so good for walking.  She is quite intrigued by me, and that I'm travelling alone, and whatnot.  So she shows me where I get on the bus to go to Ljubljana, and then drops me off at my hostel.  Before I get out of the car, she asks me if I will be ok by myself.  Actually, she asked me about 8 times.  All 8 times I assured her I would be fine.  So I collect my back pack, take two steps from the car, and fall flat on my face.  Of course she asks about 3 more times if I'm ok, and after I assure her I'm just clumsy, I go on my merry way.  Good one Leah...

Bled is this beautiful little town tucked away in the Alps.  There is a lake with an Island in the middle (Jen and Hannah - it instantly reminded me of Goose Lake in Glacier, and I thought of you 2!) with a church and some other buildings on it.  I walked around the lake, hiked up to the castle.  Did some reading, and just relaxed there, it was quite nice.

The castle...The castle was built circa 1004, and still exists.  I paid the admission to get in, and after that, I didn't see one person anywhere.  I could have made off with things from the castle.  It was quite odd.  There were some nice views, and cool things to look at.  Plus they had a really nice bathroom!

This is just how ridiculous I actually looked. It's ok if you laugh,...

Hey Leah - your pictures of this place are simply amazing! What a beautiful place! And I am just picturing you falling down, that had to be hilarious! I'm sure you leave quite the impression every where you go! I'm so glad you had a great spring break! You are so brave to venture out on your own, but what an experience you are having! Love you - Momma

hi elizabeth, i wrote a comment earlier but must not have posted correctly. anyway. as for falling down with pack i know the feeling. when you get off balance a little might as well just go ahead and fall cause there aint much you can do about it. i fell once up in maine in a bog. went up to my waist in mud. but no one there to see it. ha. oh yeah and you must take after old gramps when you like to travel alone. don't have to listen to all that whining. will see you soon. love, gramps
