Oh yeah - what a place....

We arrived in Rio from Ilha Grande late afternoon, where we had been disappointed with the weather. Fortunately, Rio was hot and pretty sunny. We stayed in the Mellow Yellow hostel - a well equipped and clean place in central Copacabana

Lapa - crazy street party, absolutely great fun and cheap as chips

Walked along the famous Copacabana beach. There is a lot of construction on the front so it is pretty manic. The beach lived up to expectations, with bronzed bodies relaxing in the sun and locals playing volleyball - with their feet!

Along the front, there also seems to be a large number of pet grooming places, with many small dogs being shampooed and blow-dried. Rio certainly has a lot to see.

The next days were spent seeing the sights. Caught the tram to Santa Teresa - very picturesque with nice restaurants; walked what seemed like 15 miles in 35 degree heat to get to Jesus (got their in the end and was amazed by the views)!; checked out the views from sugar loaf - sweet; partied in Lapa - crazy street party, absolutely great fun and cheap as chips; supped many caipirinhas in Ipanema (how strong???).

We had a great time in Rio and have promised ourselves we will return and see more one day. And the weather was good: hot and sunny. Still look like gringos though.

Having a great time, but I do miss a good cup of tea!
