So this is going to be a short entry, I just wanted to say that Liza and I made it safely to the Pacific Northwest, specifically Vancouver British Columbia, and we are fine and starting to enjoy our reintroduction to civilization. My Barenaked Ladies biography is out now, in Canada anyway, and we have seen it in Chapters, the large booksuperstore chain. In fact, on Liza's urging, I volunteered to sign about fifteen copies just now at the Chapters store at the corner of Granville St and Broadway. The people who worked there were actually quite enthusiastic about me doing that, I wonder if they realize that it's now impossible for them to send the books back if they dont sell... Liza thinks it will actually increase the sale value, collectibles and all that. Liza is kind. Still, I technically qualify as 'PUBLISHED AUTHOR' now and about this I am quite happy. I think I may just take all my notes from the last six months and work them into some kind of travelogue/memoir/road story about a couple who ditch thier lives in Sillycon Valley and head out to Asia and the Indian Subcontinent before moving to the 'city of glass', Vancouver. (By the way, the term City Of Glass is taken from the title of the new Douglas Coupland book about his hometown of Vancouver. I am not fool enough to steal that title. But I'm sure I'll come up with something as achingly clever and moderne. I got to play guitar last night at the Sugar Refinery (a club) with my old pals The Rheostatics (they're mentioned in my book, I love being able to say that!) We played a medley of classic rock songs, including ELO's 'Do Ya?', Rush's 'Fly By Night' The Who's 'Baba O'Reilly' and even The Ramones 'Sheena Is A Punk Rocker' Michael Phillip Wojewoda was on the drum kit, and it was a treat to play with these young lads from the wilds of Etobicoke (pronounced e-TOE-bick-oh)Ontario, a Western part of Toronto. Guitarist Martin Tielli is a true artiste, a painter of oils and poet of words who manages to make an electric guitar sound like both poetry and great art. He is a humble genius and I am happy to have a chance to witness his work, let alone to call him my friend. The band are so Canadian, not in jingoistic, militaristic way , but in a simple 'here's what we are' kind of way, only mildly pretentious at times but mainly unselfconciously indigenous progressive rock without the posing (although they do put in the pomp in certain circumstances) I digres of course.

A NOTE ABOUT THE TRIP JOURNALS

I guess now that we are 'home', we might have to discontinue these fireside chats. That's kind of a shame, as I think Liza and I both love to be able to share our little project that we call our life with you, the friends and readers who log on and tag along as it were. Perhaps we'll try and sneak in a few more, eh? How about this for an ending: The trip never ends? We just keep journaling and sharing as we go through the process of reindoctrination as Canadians and relocation to an unfamiliar city. I'm gonna try and keep that going. But in case I can't get to the journal as often, I'd like to thank everyone for cheering us on as we slid around Asia and India, and I'd like to thank all the wonderful people we met on the road who shared their own adventures and gave us travel tips. At the risk of sounding overly sentimental, It has been the trip of lifetime and the time of our lives.
