We left the Perhentian Islands on the 4pm fast-boat and got a taxi to the train station for the 19.02 express train to KL. [This is famously known as the Jungle Railway, but unfortunately due to time we couldn't spend a night in Kota Bharu to enjoy the jungle sights on the day train. We also missed out trekking in Taman Negara which is meant to be amazing but you need to give it 2-3 days.]

All three of us arrived in KL at 9am (2 hours later then expected) but that was fine as we enjoyed the sleep and were thankful Kev was still with us :o) During the night we were going down the carriages to the dining one. With the train hurtling along it turned quickly as Kev was walking thru two carriages. With the train door open in the other carriage he was very lucky not to go out. I was behind him so I think I got more of a fright :o)

Kuala Lumpur - Everything you expect - A great city.

We filled our first day of two in KL with some 'things to do'. The Petronas towers were closed unfortunately so we went up the Menara Telecommunications tower instead. At 481m, it's the 4th tallest in the world, and boasts an impressive viewing deck at 276m. We did this around 6pm to take in some day and night shots. We went to the KLCC shopping complex. You could shop til you dropped in KL - every girls (and metrosexuals) dream :o)  Amazing. Every brand, who is anybody, is here. We took in Superman Returns as well in the cinema complex. Pretty good. We hit the night market in Chinatown also. Street-vendors everywhere. A must-do also.

The following day, with a bit of Irish charm, we were able to visit the Petronas Towers and go up to the Skybridge. We arrived at 4pm thinking you could just go up to it, but it turned out, they give out only 1200 tickets a day on a first come basis at 8.30am :o) We winged it though and got in on standby for the last lift at 4.45. I was delighted. It was something I really wanted to do. We got some nice shots..

The night-life in KL is pretty quiet during the week. We knew this before-hand but couldn't manage a weekend stay. It's Kev's birthday in a few days. So, for the complete ying-yang change i.e. futuristic KL -v- dusty-road Cambodia we're going to celebrate it in Cambodia. We really enjoyed KL and would definitely come back (even more so on a weekend)..
