The next morning we picked up our tiny little car and headed north to the Northlands, and to a place called Paihia. After a few hours of driving we arrived to find a quaint little town, actually pretty beautiful. We booked into a 'hostal' not far from the centre, only to realise it was a mini apartment. It was sooo cool! We had our own lounge area, kitchen etc! Anyway, fortunately for me, as soon as Yaz saw the kitchen she wanted to cook (trust me, after three months of not being able to, even I wanted to!).

The next day we were booked on two tours, so we woke up early for our four hour tour of the Bay of Islands, stopping on one of the islands for lunch. It was pretty cool, but the best was yet to come... Snapper fishing in the afternoon. We had no clue as to what to expect, and were put on a boat with four other people and taken out to the middle of nowhere. We were then given a rod each and some basic instructions. As soon as Yaz's line was in the water she felt a tug and started reeling it in... In fact it was so heavy I had to drop my rod and help her... when it came to the top she had actually caught TWO fish on the same line! Everyone was seriously impressed, and I had some catching up to do... So I sat and sat and sat, with everyone else reeling in all sorts of fish, I hadn't even caught one!! After about an hour or so, I think the guide was feeling a bit sorry for me, and told us that we were going to move further out to find more fish, as soon as he said that, I reeled in a corker...! : )

After that it was all go, Yaz caught a whopping eight in total, and I got five. One of the guys actually caught a shark!! It was fantastic! Anyway, after about four hours we were taken back to shore, and the guide gutted and cleaned all the fish for us to take home. Yaz was in her element, in fact she spent the whole journey back planning what to make, and it was definately worth it - fish curry... Mmmmmm. Well worth all the hard work.
