Today, my class took a fieldtrip into Liverpool.  Liverpool is the birthplace of The Beatles.  It is also a port city which means it is a mixing ground for different cultures.  This also makes Liverpool a musical center and perfect place for the formation of The Beatles.

We caught the train from Oxford, switched trains at Birmingham and then rode the rest of the way into Limeport Station in downtown Liverpool.  Trains are the last form of public transportation that still confuse me.  Even after this trip, I do not fully understand how it works.  We then walked to the Beatles Museum.  Many of the things mentioned in class about the Beatles, I was able to appreciate and see first hand at the museum.  Again we were given audio guides.

After the Beatles Museum, we got a bus tour which rode around town and showed the birthplace of George Harrison, the last home of Paul McCartney in Liverpool, Strawberry fields, Penny Lane and much more.  The guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining.  After the tour, we made a quick dash back to the Limestreet Station where we caught the train home to Oxford.  We made the train with only a few minutes to spare.  I'm very relieved that we caught the train because it was the last train to Oxford until 9am the next morning!

The only thing I didn't get to see was the Cavern which is the pub where The Beatles played before they were discovered.  Although i'm not a "true Beatles fan", I gained some knowledge from my trip to Liverpool and I can appreciate the impact this group had on our society.
