So I had the most entertaining Monday I have ever had, or at least right up there with all other awesome Mondays! The people in my group were asked to be extras in a Bollywood movie last week, but most of us were in Goa on the day they were shooting for the movie, but since that is like the coolest thing ever to get to do while in Mumbai, we decided to take an offer to be in a MTV promo for an up and coming Indian artist, Silky Kumar. Dont ask me what he sings (apparently the name of the song we were promoting is "Scent of Desire") or even what type of music...its still a mystery to me. But we sure as heck were up for the challenge!

We arrived at the crack of dawn on Monday morning to some empty but usable resort, missing clinic unfortuntaly, but what's one clinic to be featured with a gigantic tool on MTV commercials in India?! They fed us breakfast, Indian style, and it was pretty damn good. We had masala dosas. Yum! That is like a potato filled crepe type roll up with a tasty dipping sauce (they had tons of sauces to choose from so I tried them all!). The only problem, however, was the crazy abundance of flies, which I totally did not understand. They were EVERYWHERE. I was holding a plate with one hand, a spoon in another, and swatting with another...wait I dont have three hands! Exactly. It was quite a balancing act. At least the flies dont bite like the skeets do!
Im totally done kissing cardboard

We were told to wait around til they needed us...expected. We all inadvertantly napped while waiting for the Chinese kids to show up (gotta get that variety...white kids and Chinese!?!). After about two hours it was SHOW TIME!
First we had to do our hair and makeup. Honestly, it was a bit like having your little brother put on your makeup, they had no idea what they were doing (no offense T). First was Alex, they tossed some crazy bright blue over her eyes, darkened her lashes, through on some eyeliner, and topped it all off with some bright pink lipstick. They took her hair out of the ponytail she had it in and brushed it. Something she definitely couldnt have done by herself! She looked a bit like Barbie. Then Susan dared the chair. Luckily she has darker hair and eyes, so they stuck with a simple brown and subtle tans with some blush and goodness. Much more subtle than the attack of Barbie and friends Alex got. Then I hopped in, ready to take what came to me....but it was the bright blue! I asked him if he would stick to browns and golds for me, and Im glad he did. He tried for some gold first, then brown on the sides...looked a little much at first, but after a bit of pushin dust around my face, it worked out ok. Then psycho lady (the lady in charge who kept asking "What aryoo dooing?? Get over theya!!") came in and cut my session short, so they tossed some gloss on my lips and we were off to the cardboard...

But on the way, we had to get our outfits! I had the best outfit of all...exactly what I came wearing with an additional necklace thrown over the one I already had that didnt even match my clothes OR the other jewelry I already had on. Thats ok, because the chic who actually got some clothes to change into ended up with white spandex capris and a green poka dotted long sleeve top! Guess this was a budget "film" =)
Task number 1: Cardboard cutouts.
Enthusiastically run up to a cardboard cut out of Silky, kiss his cardboard fake lips, and then turn and pose with him. Riiiiight...and we all got a turn. We had to do this with four separate cardboard cutouts of the guy. Most of them with him crouching over and kissing the air. Someone needs some action...quick. One of the cardboard cutouts was his with his butt sticking out, so I had a fabulous idea (but I needed a buddy attack, so I grabbed the English girl next to me and filled her in with the plan, she was game!) I went to his front and punched him in the gut, while she went behind him and smacked his bum. I obviously didnt get to see it, but we had the crowd laughing! Silly Silky, couldnt even fight back. Best part was...Silky himself was right around the other side of the building in yellow spadex shorts and a whife beater. I will say one thing: that is NOT a good look for him...or his friend.
Task 2: AXE press conference
So this one was an ad blatantly tied into the Silky promo. The back of my head in a french twist will be featured in this one! It was pretty lame and a grey haired man with a spike was the one talking. Who has grey hair with a spike?? (he was white too!)
Task 3 (my favorite): Nite scene
They grabbed us four white chics and asked us to put on robbed and pajamas for the nite scene. OH NO! What the heck is a night scene? So this is India, so two of us got to wear lovely silk pajamas (pants and long sleeve shirt, totally promiscuous!) and the other two had to wear corny tshirt, one that said Tiger of Testosterone, and the other said Villanova Casanova (I didnt get that one) and spandex shorts (whats up with the spandex here?!) We got pics with Silky!!! And then we had to film a scene where we blew kisses as Silky. Best part, his line: "But you know what guys, it gets lonely at the top...Right girls?" And then we blow him kisses.....ahhhhh help me! Hey at least I got paid for it!! 500 Rupees baby...thats like 12 whole bucks!
Scene 4: Shrine to silky
This one was a bit lame, just a girl in a purple sari dancing to no music (maybe its in the background??) around a shrine of a cardboard cutout (of course) of Silkys head and candles, which she almost burned her dress on! One thing I have to say about Indian style dancing...it is so ungraceful. Or maybe it was just this random underpaid girl with no music...
Last scene: Girls chasing cars
We were not good enough for this one, apparently they only wanted the Chinese girls for this. Thats ok, I never want to be spotted chasing a car with a guy named Silky inside anyway!
Then the day was over, and it was off to get some fabulous rice and orange stuff at the guest house....oh how I cant wait for Jaymo's chili =)!
Lesson of the day: Stay in the trailer, it has AC!
Funny thing of the day: After you calculate out what I bought for drinks at this thing, I only made about $7 hahahaha.
Cool thing of the day: Ice cream patties. They looked like raw hamburg patties but they were icecream!
Word of the day: There was none. MTV is in English here too!
