Friday,after a one hour flight from Cusco to Lima we took a tour of the residential area enroute to Casa Diez Canseco for lunch.The owner of this lovely old home met us and gave a tour and history of his family and this historic house. His family had always held high government positions and after his wife’s recent death he decided to open his house for special events to raise money for a Peruavian human rights organization he heads. After lunch and too many pisco sours we headed to Plaza Mayor, Lima’s historic center to view its impressive monuments-the Government Palace, City Hall,Cathedral and the Archbishop’s Palace. We then visited South America’s best preserved colonial mansion which has been in the same family since 1535. We were glad to return to the ship-our home away from home- after being away four days .We were so tired we decided to pass up the dinner party on deck and ordered room service and watched TV.

This is our third day at sea. We have enjoyed bridge,reading,lectures by the famed National Geographic photographer, Steve McCurry and a concert by Katya Grineva , a lovely Russian pianst who has appeared at Carnegie Hall six times. Each of The World Cruise passengers received a copy of a book about Steve McCurrry’s work. Last night we met a lovely couple Adrienne and Truck Morrison when they, the West’s and we were asked to join the ship’s Staff Captain, Igor Bencina for the formal night dinner.

Tonight we arrive in Valpraiso, Chile and tomorrow 90 passengers will disembark and 100 new ones will join us as we complete the first of our nine segment journey. Sallie and I continue to visit the treadmill daily and I would hate to think of our weight if we didn’t. We rotate bridge partners and so far Donny is beating us all by a wide margin in our running score.
