In Buenos Aires we had planned to continue the gym theme and booked into the Best Western Monumental & Spa which was not TOO expensive, although we were very disappointed to find that the gym and spa were closed for refurbishment. Oh well, bring on the pastries.

Having now spent 5 nights here we´ve decided that we really like Buenos Aires. It is a bit crazy, and quite intense with the sheer number of people and volume of traffic, but you are not hassled at all and we have felt really safe during the day and at night walking around and taking in the sights - and there are plenty of those.

I paid my respects to the statue of Diego Armando Maradona (or maybe not).

We did a 4 hour city tour by bus which was a great way to work out which were the best bits and the bits to avoid. We took a visit to the Boca Juniors football stadium where I paid my respects to the statue of Diego Armando Maradona (or maybe not) and thanked him for making be miserable as an 8 year old in 1986. We also checked out the cemetery where Eva Peron was buried which is almost a city in itself given the size of the crypts.

We booked tickets one evening to see a tango show called Tanguera which was excellent. Naomi took up the cocktail challenge, which at 1 pound 50 each  I couldn´t really argue with. Lock up your vodka when we get back!

The food here is in a different class to Peru and Chile. One day we ordered a steak for about 4 quid and it was the size of Naomi´s head, and undoubtedly less grissly. We moved from the Best Western to a fantastic hostel called Hostal Estoril, which at a third of the price was fantastic and the buffet breakfast was probably better.

Yesterday we took a day trip to Uruguay... as you do. We went on the boat for about 20 pounds each to Colonia de Sacremento where we spent the afternoon exploring the modest if pleasant sights. Yet again I showed my universal boundary-crossing attractiveness to rabid dogs and was chased up the street by one which apparently wanted to make friends.... or eat me. He looked like the dog equivalent of Sloth in The Goonies so I wasn´t hanging around to swap phone numbers. Fortunately one of its legs was mangled so it couldn´t run very fast.

We took a flight up to see the famous Iguazu Falls on the Argentina/Brazil/ Paraguay border. The world´s largest (although not highest) by all accounts. We´re really glad we made the trip as the falls were absolutely spectacular. The highlight was probably the speed boat trip which actually went into part of the falls. Naomi was so proud of her bravery that she made me buy the DVD as evidence.

Tomorrow its Rio (via Santiago for the fourth time) and then home!!
