Things are going well!

I am working at the General Social Care Council (GSCC) in London Bridge. (They register all the Social Care workers and employers in England). The office is in the Goldings House on Hay’s Lane, which overlooks the River Thames and HMS Belfast. However, the window in my office is towards the street, so I don’t get that view. Our department deals with Conduct Complaints, and I’m doing project management / admin type work.

I make the most of my lunch breaks by walking around the London Bridge area. There is an open-air photo gallery display on the south bank which is interesting. Some days I walk along the riverfront, across Tower Bridge, along the north bank past Tower of London, down to London Bridge, cross the river and back into the office, a good 30-minute walk.

Last Saturday, Sarah and I walked from Peckham to London Bridge (5km / an hour) to go to the Borough Market. What a fun place! There are so many stalls with interesting foods and things to try. And most of the stalls had things to sample: the yummiest chocolate brownie ever, cheese, butter, organic cereals, fudge, olives, nuts, and jams and spreads. You could get full just trying samples! And a great place to have lunch; we had a bread bun with olive oil and chorizo sausage with rocket - very tasty! Definitely going back there again…

I really like bridges! Very nerdy I guess, but there are so many here, that I try to make the most of them. One night I walked from London Bridge to Westminster, and crossed the river 8 times over 7 different bridges. (Then walked from Westminster to Peckham, crazy!)

The flat is going ok. We sometimes have to ask Craig to repeat himself 6 times (he’s from Manchester, and has a hard to understand accent and says some mental things). But he’s also getting to grips with living with 2 Kiwis, so I guess we’re all learning.

I take the bus to work, and then walk home. The bus is cheaper than the train, but the train is quicker. It’s a good walk - a good way to see the streets and buildings (and keep that Heathrow Injection off my ass…).

Otherwise, things are going well. But winter is coming…
