A Rest Stop
From Our Big Adventure in Ballina, Australia on Jan 15 '07
Drive the next morning through Stanthorpe - I did my scout food and wine tour around here and we are going to my most favourite winery in the whole world - By is skeptical ! We arrive at Ballandean Estate bang on 9am and dash in for a chat with the owners and to buy some bottles...we come away with 3 bottles for about $37. Sadly they don't export to the UK and currently have no plans to do so - I must find a friendly person back home to import it for me at a sensible price. We drive back towards Stanthorpe to visit the Bramble Patch and buy fresh strawberries for By and raspberries for me - yummy. Overdosing on fruit at the moment - our poor fridge is groaning under the stress of keeping it all cool.
Next stop is Girraween National Park for a stroll to 'The Granite Arch' and a look at 'The Pyramid'. By takes over the driving and we head to Casino down a rather twisty road that goes on forever and ever. Lunch is in the van at a viewpoint with fruit and water..then more twisty mountainous roads with stunning scenery before finally arriving at Lismore. Time is getting on so we drive to Ballina and check in - late for us - almost 5pm.
