Another country, another set of ruins
From Rich in the Americas! in Copan, Honduras on May 19 '06
A nice air-con minibus to drive us to Honduras couldn't make the 4am start seem good. The packed lunch provided by the Black Cat Hostel wasn't too good either, but hey, apart from the packed the lunch the Black Cat is a fantastic place to stay in Antigua.
Anyway, over the border without any problems and then a bit of a walk around Copan in Honduras to get nice 4 dollar dorms. Someone we met in Xela had said you could immediately tell the difference between Guatemala and Honduras. I couldn't. It all looks pretty much the same.
Wandered around town for a bit but it's so damn hot here, especially coming from Xela, that you don't feel like doing much. Decided to wander around the ruins in the afternoon, which are OK but nothing that spectacular after Tikal and the ruins in Mexico. The carvings are nice (which is what the ruins are known for) but their still just carvings. No pictures I'm afraid as my camera was stolen before I had a chance to download photos. You didn't miss much anyway.
Bumped into Sonja (the Austrian girl I met in San Pedro) in the hostel. Good to see her again after 3 weeks. After talking to her I decided to head to Roatan rather than Utila. Also, no lie in after the previous mornings early start as I decided to head straight to Roatan as there is not much to do in Copan. Only had to get up at 6.30 though so not too bad. Although I did manage to padlock my keys into the locker and had to unscrew the locker to get my bag and my keys out! It's all good!
