Paris we have arrived!!
From Europe - The Second Time Around in Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, France on Apr 30 '08
Today we say farewell to Brussels. Farewell to all the great bars and pubs on offer and the many tight alleyways filled with glorious stores and restaurants and gift shops. Brussels has that feel of the city life but without the high rise buildings and the hustle and bustle.
We head after breakfast and take a walk through Grand Palace one last time before headed back to grab our bags. At the front of our hotel, the markets are being set up as stalls have varies of goodies, such as scarf, necklace, fruits etc.
Bonjour Paris
It is now time to head for the airport. The train station is packed with other travellers. Our train arrives in 10 mins and we arrive at the International Airport with plenty time to spare.
We will be arriving in Copenhagen for a quick plane transfer then its bonjour Paris!!
We board our flight bound for Paris and arrive at Charles de Gaulle airport after very turbulent flight that had me shaking in my seat. However we arrive safe and sound in Paris! The airport has tubes of escalators all in different directions. We travel through long extended escalators to get to the exit gates
As soon we exit we are bombarded with men in suits asking if we want taxi ride and flashing a card with a picture of taxi and phone number. We decline. We decide another means of transport but just not sure which one.
We approach a male worker to ask for his help. He told us to wait for the bus that will take us to the Arc De Triomphe and then from there we would have to taxi it to our hotel. He suggested that this is the better method and this late at night the trains are not safe.
Bus 13 arrives. We hop on and for 14 Euros it took us on a 30 mins ride towards the city.
Indeed we are dropped off at the bus terminal just at Arc De Triomphe, and thankfully the taxi stand is just opposite. We hop into a taxi and hand the driver our sheet of paper showing our Hotel 'Hotel Prelude Gare Du Nord'
The taxi driver did not speak any English but he seemed to know where we needed to go. As we drove further and further away from the Ac De Triomphe I became very uneasy, thinking where in the world will we end up?
Thankfully I started to recognize some of the streets from my last trip to Paris. We make our way through to the red district namely where Moulin Rouge is located to find out hotel is only a 10 min walk from the Moulin Rouge. All the lights are lit up and it’s a great sight. The city is well lit up and definitely alive
He drops us off in front of the hotel and the cab ride cost 10 euro. Well worth it!
We check in , put our bags down and decide to walk onto the streets for something to eat. The location of our hotel is conveniently close to the main road. We decided a short stroll was all we had enough for, as sleep is what was more on our minds. However, Boujour Paris!! We have arrived!
