Hello everyone! Sorry I didn't write this much sooner!
Day 1: We took the early flight out of Indianapolis. We arrived at the San Francisco airport and then checked out the international terminal by SOM. After that we headed to our hotel, which was in Oakland. After we got settled, we took a walking tour of San Francisco. We walked up to Telegraph Hill and through Chinatown.
Day 2: We had a free day, so I went with a few other people to rent bikes. We bought sandwiches and water for lunch. Then rented the bikes at a shop called "Blazing Saddles"! Our bike ride took us across the Golden Gate bridge and then down into Sausalito. We took the ferry back and then raced to return our bikes on time. We wondered over to Ghiradelli Square and checked out 2 shops for the free samples, too bad they were the same! This was probably my favorite day in San Francisco.
Day 3: Every other day we took the metro into town but today we took the ferry. It was a nice short little trip. I sat outside the entire time even though it was a little chilly. We visited the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Contemporary Jewish Museum. Next we took a tour of SOM's offices and then went to the hill with the curvy road. I can't find the actual name of that. After this we walked all around the city, into some sketchy areas as well. It was an interesting night trying to find our way around.

Day 4: We went into the city and took a tour of the San Francisco Federal Building by Morphosis. It was interesting to see the sustainable features of the building. Next we head over to the Academy of Sciences museum and the deYoung museum. I really enjoyed the Academy of Sciences. The deYoung museum had good view of the city from its tower. I think the spare time we had we went through Ashbury Heights.
Day 5: We walked from our hotel to the Cathedral of Light in Oakland. This is an SOM project. I really liked this place. I wish I could attend masses there every Sunday. It was beautiful and full of details. I took several pictures and will add them with the rest of my pictures. We took a walking tour of Oakland with Mike Pyatuck, a architect that works in Oakland. Then we headed onto the metro and went to Berkley. We visited a Maybeck church and attended a lecture at the architecture building. I, or course, bought my Berkley shirt.
Day 6: On our last day in San Francisco, I took the tour of Alcatraz. I had to take a ferry out to the island, where I was joined by millions of pesky little flies. I grabbed one of the free audio tours and listened to that while I walked around and took pictures. Of course the end of the tour was through the bookshop, and there was an ex-prisoner sitting there waiting to sign the book he wrote. After that I went to see the sea lions again, because I had previously visited at night. Those things smell though. We had our group dinner before we left for the airport, where I fell asleep. We caught the red eye back to Indy.
I took about 700 pictures on this trip! What can I say, I take after my father. I will post some pictures very soon.
