After going to the military park, we were hungry and found a hotel along the road on the way back to Jackson. Walking in was like a one of those moments seen only in a movie. When I walked through the doors everyone one at the bar stopped talking and turned their heads. I'm sure if there was music playing it would've stopped too. We ordered some food which tasted great and was really cheap. The locals in the pub weren't too friendly at first but when they realised two of us were from Australia they became really friendly and one of them even invited me back to their house. We played some shuffle board and headed off. It was a really good experience getting to meet some everyday people from middle America. From talking to them we learnt how much the civil war is still a sore point for many people in the south. One guy even said "we're still in half-time", referring that the war is still not over. We met a guy whose great grand father was "bushwacked". Bushwacking was something that went on after the war where surviving confederate soldiers where simply shot on the side of the road, or when they were walking through the bush.
Freindly pub, complete with confederate flag.
