Saturday, June 16

After arriving in Oslo in the wee hours of the morning and getting very little sleep, we hung out in the Oslo train station checking email and searching for future accommodations until 9 a.m. when the next train boarded to Gothenburg in our quest to get to Malmo, Sweden where my friend Pam lived. I met Pam on a plan from New York to Milwaukee. We were both going to Green Bay and we talked the entire plan ride from Milwaukee to Green Bay. We finally made it to Malmo in the mid-afternoon and Pam picked us up from the train station. John and I were very thankful for her picking us up and even more thankful when she told us that her parents had invited us to stay with them. Pam’s parents lived about 30 minutes outside of Copenhagen and John and I jumped at the opportunity to stay with locals. We hung out and had dinner with Pam, her sister Nina, and their parents. Pam’s mom is a great cook and I know John loved having home cooked Indian food.

Sunday, June 17

We had a traditional Danish breakfast with Pam and her family—hearty whole wheat and walnut bread, Danish Blue cheese, ham, shrimp salad, Danishes, juice, and tea. Pam and Nina were great tour guides and hosts and showed us around Copenhagen. We saw the Little Mermaid, the Royal Palace, Tivoli, and the pedestrian street Stroget where we shared a lunch of nachos and wine.

Being unable to get a reservation on the trains to Stockholm until the following day, we stayed for a second night at Pam’s parents’ house. We really enjoyed meeting Pam’s family and thank her family for being so kind to us.
