So here’s another funny one that I had meant to write home about!
While the group of us ‘LASPers’ were in Ocotal, Nicaragua we were all walking back home to our respected host homes. It was about 6:30 at night and was fairly dark out. I should mention first of all that there were 4 girls and 1 guy and keep that in mind as you read the rest
...put her back!
So as we walk down this dirt road we see and hear a little girl whimpering in a school yard behind a closed gate looking out at us and wearing were school uniform and a pink backpack. One of the girls in the group says, “Oh no, she got left at school.” We all go to the fence, except for the one guy, Steven, who decided to walk across the street to see if anyone knew this little girls status.

So in the mean time, us girls are trying to ask this little girl where her mom is and she just starts to begin to cry. Two of the girls start struggling to get the gate open and the other girl who was convinced that she got left at school, picked her up and tried to comfort her, but I noticed that at this point this little girl who looked about 4 years old started whaling and screaming. It’s at this time that Steven returns and he says, “Guys, she lives there… put her back!”. Rachel, the girl holding this hysterical little girl, isn’t quite convinced, but we talk her into putting her back behind the fence and sure enough, we see a house behind the school building and the little girls runs for it!!! Some else say, “RUN… we got to get the heck out of here!” So we all start walking extremely fast while we are cracking up because we realized what it all must have looked like to see these gringos trying to kidknap an innocent Nicaraguan school girl.
