We made our way to Taxco via bus from San Miguel and via Mexico city. It was a long day, and an early start.

Taxco is in a stunning mountainous location and is a little reminiscent of a larger, all white Positano, Italy (minus the sea!!).

Arriving at the bus terminal, we piled into one of an almost continuous stream of white Combi vans that do the circuitous route through town. For anyone who wants to try and set the world record for number of combi vans and beetles in one place, you would be mad to try it anywhere but Taxco. Our hotel was located fabulously on the very edge of the Zocalo (main plaza) and featured some great views over the town and a lovely pool and deck.

Taxco is an old silver mining town and is today famous for its myriad of silver merchants ( 300 plus according to lonely planet).

Unfortunately Taylor fell ill due to bad piece of cake we bought him and was stuck in bed during our time here. Piper kindly volunteered to keep him company most of the time, together with the TV and game boys...

This left Sandy and I to spend our time exploring alone, popping in frequently to check on the sick Taylor. We were amazed by the range and quality of the silver jewellery, especially the contemporary designs around the Zocalo.Well, we were sorely tempted and did succumb I'm afraid to say.The prices were just too good and we bargained hard and often!

On Sunday we wandered through the locals' market which was fascinating, and no silver was to be found anywhere..just great fresh food, clothes and household goods.

We spent our final few hours by the pool enjoying the warm winter sun, before piling back into a Combi and catching the bus for the 4 hour trip to Puebla.

We knew about the silver shopping in Taxco but did not expect to be so captivated by the town itself with its winding, cobble stoned roads and a surprise of some kind around each corner.
