We got the bus to Kota Bharu from Penang. We managed to play the 'ABC' game for the majority of the 8 hour trip. Strawberry also braved her first squat toilet in a wooden hut en route!

Kota Bharu seemed to be a friendly place and our first impressions were good. We were directed to our hostel by some smiling, helpful Malays and found the hostel to be a basic place, but cheap and well organised. We managed to sort out our trips to the Perhentian Islands and the Jungle train with no hassle whatsoever. Later we found a great little veggie restaurant which, to Strawberry's delight, did vegetarian satay!

After dinner we had a quick look around the night market where I got 2 pretty local sarongs for RM15. Not bad bargaining for a beginner!
