We decided to stop for 1 night in Chicloya on our way down south, and Í am so glad we did! It is not your typical touristy place, oh no, I think we were the only foreigners there! We did get quite a few stares as expected and enjoyed people watching on the square.

The town´s economy strives from hairdressing, chicken dishes and taxi rides. 2 taxis per square meter at least! All beeping their horns so to catch our attention and jump into their vehicle. I guess it makes the town vibrant, or noisy!! We were unfortunate to pick a hostal which had a cockerel and 50 children also staying for the night! A 4am wake up call from the cockerel didn´t go down too well... but the school kids running up and down the corridor and knocking on our door at 7am was even worse... The smallish town was very welcoming though. We got talking to a few locals who were simply happy to chat to someone ´different´. A kid asked me my name as we got off the bus, which I found really sweet, and a local guy was trying to help us find our way round town. Another guy was wittering on about Shakespere when we told him we came from England.

We had the most amazing sea food and ice cream/cakes there, and oh so cheap!

But time passes and we need to head south... so we could only stay for 1 night in Chicloya. We decided to head down for Trujillo the following day and visit the Inca ruins and the old town of Chan Chan.

We found one of the best hostals we´ve stayed in so far, just 10mins walk out of town. Cable TV and everything!!! The lady at reception was kind enough to come with me to a phone booth in an attempt to find my lost coat! She spoke to the bus company on my behalf, but we failed in our mission... Gutted!

We booked an afternoon tour to the ruins of the old town of Chan Chan. Very interesting stuff indeed! We went to 4 different sites and learnt a lot about the Incas. We met 2 guys on the tour, one from Australia, the other from Ireland, and even managed to convince them to stay an extra night so we could go out in town together. It was Saturday night after all! They had already booked their bus tickets and everything, so I guess we must have been rather convincing, or they simply really liked us??

We had a good laugh anyway, saw a live band and sampled a few different bars. Promise I will stick some pictures soon!!
