Next stop - Mantaray reosrt on Naviti island.  Mantaray had been recommended to us by a few people we'd met along the way.  As you may have guessed, you can supposedly swim with the Mantarays at this resort.  As we had already ticked this box on the west coast of Oz, we were keen to see the graceful creatures again, so we booked in to stay 2 nights.

We were welcomed onto the island with the traditional Fijian song, sang by about 6 of the staff (this is common at the dearer resorts - they give you a send-off as well, making you feel like you're waving off friends!)  The beach wasn't as nice as Oarsmans Bay but we ran into some people we had previously met there, so the company was good.

Now i know Neil will like reading this bit but with everyone we met in Fiji, we tended to have the following conversation -

'Hi!  Just arrived?'

'Yes i have'

'Oh where were you before?'

'Oh I was at Coral View Resort'

'Oh yeah, food nice?'

'Yeah not bad.  Food good here?'

'Oh yeah it's good but not as good as in Octopus Resort.  Food's amazing there.'

'Oh yeah, we were in Long Beach - nice food there as well.'

And so on.  As you can see, before poeple ask you your name, you hve discussed the quality of the food at every resort you've both been to!  So we had picked Mantaray, on the basis of a few conversations with various people, telling us how good the food was!  And i have to say, it was good!  Huge buffets of food, 3 times a day, my hope of shedding some of my 'travelling' weight, went right out of the window!

After dinner in the evenings, they organised games such as limbo (I was dreadful but our gay friend Daniel excelled at this), musical statues (sat that one out), musical statues sexual positions, which involved jumping into the sexual position announced when the music stopped, e.g. doggy style, missionary on a table, threesome!  i think you get the drift!  We participated in that one, which was hilarious, although needless to say we didn't win!

And so back to the Mantarays, day 1 had passed and none had been spotted.  We waited with bainted breathe on our 2nd day, at which point, we decided they weren't really looking for them as it was nearing the end of the season...so we didn't see any.  Oh well, at least we had already experienced the giant rays in another part of the world.
