I wanted to go to south Macedonia, which is most easily accessed from the Macedonian border on the other side of Lake Ohrid. This is possible, but the bus from Ohrid will only take me to the border and not into an Albanian town. Land border crossings are sketchy events in most places, especially when it involves getting a taxi at the border (if there is one); so I opted to take a bus directly to the capital city Tirana located in the north of Albania. Because it is not necessary for me to go that far north in order to head south, I jumped off in the town of Durres. I knew that it was a port city, and I learned that it is a very polluted port city. So polluted, in fact, you cannot swim in the sea. After a 13 hour bus ride, I wandered to the very fancy Hotel Pepeto and went to bed.
