We had to be up by 3am to make the police convoy down to Abu Simbel. Abu Simbel is huge temples carved into the hillside by Ramses II in honour of himself and his wife Nefertari. The astonishing part is not just the Temples themselves but also the fact that they were moved in the 60’s because of the building of the Aswan Dam. I’d love to go back and visit if there was ever a time when it wasn’t buzzing with tourists.
