Lazy Langkawi

After 2 weeks of 'doing things' it was time to chill out and Langkawi turned out to be the ideal place. It was very quiet but the beaches were clean and the sea was warm. There were sights and things to do but I decided that some quality tanning time was in order as I needed to get rid of the strap marks......I kind of gatecrashed a 4* hotel (well the worse they could do was chuck me out) so I had a lovely day reading my book and chilling out......now in my defence I was only in the direct sun for about 2 hours and I did have factor 25 on...but I ended up frying. To make things worse I had been wearing a cap and my sunglasses. The top half of face was fine but the bottom half was glowing. It looked like I'd been wearing those flyng goggles and sat under a sun lamp for an hour.
There were huge thunderstorms on Sunday night (even had a power cut) so luckily it was a lot cooler the following day. I was going to stay in the shade anyway so ended up reading/watching dvds.
Some evenings I go out and nothing happens. Other times it's just so random it makes me smile. On Saturday night I was determined to watch the qualifying and I ended up watching it with 2 Ferrari supporting Russians (who surprisingly also supprted Chelsea!) in an Irish bar. I've had to get used to drinking lager again (cheaper than vodka) so afterwards I decided I must have a curry. Then I went to the bar next to the hostel for a night cap. It was the most bizarre place. Now Engligh was never my strong point, but I'll try and paint the image......
Against the side of old building, there was a projector screen (probably about 8x5m big) showing the sports channel. The projector was inside a ricketly old cabinet with a child size table over the projector to keep it dry if it rains. The bar was full of football flags, etc and also a huge beanbag style chair. The bar owner was called Joe. Massive Bolton fan, thick accent, drank guiness & lager together in a 2 pint glass and hated Man Utd. Inside the toilet basin there was a Man U sticker and the note saying 'please piss here.' Joe had a son who was just a mini-me. There was also a guy with really thick Bristol accent who looked like Timmy Mallot's ugly brother and a guy from Wolverhampton who said mate (pronounced m-eight) after anything. They were friendly enough. So I watched a bit of the Arsenal v Bolton game, drank my vodka and sloped off to bed.
Didn't really meet any other travellers in Langkawi. A lot of holiday makers and 'long term' people (i.e. can't be bothered working so just come here and live on 5 quid a day). Moving onto Thailand next........
