If you guessed SHINGLES you win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right, shingles, adult chicken pox.  AWESOME.

Apparently my body does not like having its internal clock re-set.

Don't worry, it looks a lot better now and I'm on the mend.  just thought you would all like to see the glory of the road.

A shout out to Dr. Michael Morrow of the US, who single handedly correctly diagnosed my blisters from half a world away via email and photos!  You the man.

To quote him, "there's not a whole hell of a lot you can do for it"

:)   PS.  The "interactive" map has us zig zagging across China...rest assured that our route has not looked like that.  We started north and progressed south the whole time.  Tonight we fly to Guilin to avoid a 30 hour train ride.  Just a 1 hour flight.

Kunming, where we are now, is certainly the best city that we have visited in China.  Its a lot more relaxed, you can see the sky, and it has really pleasant weather and very friendly people.  We have just bummed around the city, went to a bird and flower market...so many cute bunnies and turtles!  it was hard not to liberate them.

We cut each others hair yesterday...that's right.  it took a few hours.  I did a stupendous job on carries flowing locks...mine looks fantastic minus a near catastrophe that has left me slightly lock impared on the right side...i can cover it up no problem.   :)

Talk to you all soon!

Shannon and Carrie

ps. RODO, if you read this I need your email address and you need to get me a job by February...

Believe it or not...sometimes I long for that commute too. LOL. Never thought I would say that! I miss seeing everyone from school. Hope all is well. Still insanely jealous about your trip. We need to catch up when you get back. When do you get back? It's been a crazy few months.

I was really confused about how you guys were taking your trip until you said you've been going south the whole way. It looks like they've put Baogou in a different place, and the date for you travelling to Datong is in 2008! Seems you've been doing some time travelling along with your land travelling!

I'm just a future traveller looking around for ideas about where to travel when in Asia. My boyfriend and I are going to spend a bit of time in China so it's good to read your blog (and others) and learn a few do's and don'ts. It's great reading!

Shannon, Hang in there...been there had that...no fun! You're trip sounds so amazing. You are definately not missing anything in Chicago...it's cold, rainy, and miserable. But at least no more 5.5 hour daily commutes! Hope you guys are having a blast. Stay safe!

Hey Jules: Glad you are reading! We are having a great time and loving every minute of the chaos...laughing ALOT! Last night on our 13 hour commute to Cambodia in the middle of the night in the back of a pickup truck with 20 other people I longed for our commute to school!
