Woohoo...La Paz is goooood!

Back on the bus from SR, we trundled through the 2nd desert in Baja...up and over mountains (with the sheer drops at the side of the road...the sort you see in films), through seas of cactii and we EVEN SAW A DUST TORNADO THING!  Not sure of the technical term but it was so cool I almost peed myself, and Jodie almost moved seats.  It was HUGE; stretched right up into the sky and looked to be about the height of the massive hill next to it.  SO yes, it was massive.

The desert's a strange thing...it seems like you could get bored of seeing the same thing over and over again.  To be honest I did get a wee bit bored once I'd finished thinking we were on another planet, but Jodie loved it...was so different from anything we've ever seen before.  Land of the Giants territory!

Arrived in La Paz as the sun was setting and we were pretty chuffed to be there.  Lots of taco stands, and we managed to navigate the streets and find out hostel Pension California.  Really cheap there, and relatively comfortable once you forget about the ants and cucharachas!

May 27th

Didn´t get up to much today other than explore La Paz...some really beautiful beaches here.  And amazing bakeries hehe!  Met a Dutch couple who are cycling down to Chile...they started in Las Vegas...absolutely mental but they were clearly enjoying themselves.  I do miss my bike I do...would be nice to have the freedom to get up and go rather than relying on public transport!

Spent today wandering around the backstreets of La Paz...found some good shops, and it´s become apparent that dreadlocks aren´t too common here as EVERYONE stares at Jodie.

Leaving Baja California Sur. It's sunny there.

Ok, today´s the day we should be heading to Mazatlan according to the internet and tourist timetables.  We woke up an hour late as Jo´s phone´s stuck on some automatic daylight savings thing.  Went to the tourist office who advised us the boat would leave at 2.30 tomorrow afternoon(?!).  We resigned ourselves to the fact that we´d be staying another night in La Paz and decided to check with the bus station and ferry place to make sure things would go without a hitch tomorrow.  Bus station advised us that the ferry actually leaves at 8am, and that the first bus to Pichilingue would be at 8am.  Hmmmm, helpful!  So, complete with backpacks we took a walk up to the ferry place.  Where we were told that the ferry to Mazatlan would be leaving on SUNDAY at half 3!  ALWAYS get the information from the horse's mouth people, always.

Oooh, us on a boat looking clean and refreshed. Or not.

Rather than stick around in LP any longer, we decided to get the next ferry to Topolobampo and head overland to Mazatlan.  By this point it was 12pm, and the ferry was leaving at 14:30.  We walked in the SCORCHING sun with our backpacks and jumped in a taxi to Pichilingue (170 pesos).  Waited there for a couple of hours and eventually got to board the ferry.  After our bags were checked.  The customs guy was a wee bit embarrassed about raking around in my bag seeing as I'm a lady (sanitary items harhar).

Yes, I did take a photo of the sunset. I am female.

The ferry was SWANKY, and included with the ticket was a slap up Mexican meal.  Met a British couple on the ferry who agreed to share a taxi in to Los Mochis to lower the cost (good for us, oh yes, as Chris spoke Spanish)
