School's still going well. The standards seem to be a lot lower in some regards in Oz- for example, you can go to med school straight out of high school, and become a doctor by the time you're 21. I've been told that trade workers (electricians, etc) can make more than people with "good jobs" and degrees. Minimum wage is a lot higher than in the States and increases if you're over a certain age (like 18 or 21). You can easily make 20 dollars an hour working at a boutique or a chain restuarant, it seems. Most people I've met here are in business

My camera broke last weekend, so for a few days I was a bit frantic trying to figure out how to get one working again. I ended up getting Sandy to buy me a new one in the States and have him ship it to me, which I hope won't be a million dollars to send. I couldn't buy one here because the warantee wouldn't be valid in the States. I hope I get it here by the end of next week or the week after, because for the rest of the month I'm going to be in and out of Brisbane. Tomorrow I'm going to Noosa to meet up with some friends for the day. Then, next weekend I'm going to Stradbroke Island for my marine science class.

Spring break (which is actually fall break here because the seasons are reversed) is in two weeks. I'm going to Fraser Island with my other field trip and then to the Whitsundays with my friends. It should be a nice little week-long trip. I hope I have my camera by then! April will be more stable as far as travelling goes, and I start my koala volunteering then. And eventually, I have (gasp) midterms!

Today I went to the Queensland art museum with my friend, and had a nice day walking along the river and through the botanical gardens. I feel like I'm becoming Australian pretty well. For the first time in my life, I'm less white than a snowflake. I can name a few Australian bands, and I recognize Australian songs on the radio or in a club. I say "how're you goin'" and "oy, mate". I eat Tim Tams, steaks, and chips. I have a Roxy surfing hat (although I have been told I look touristy because all the Asians immediately buy one upon visiting Australia). I take the lift to my room, and I wear sunnies and my cozzie to the beach (actually...I still don't call it a cozzie; it's still a swimsuit to me). By the time I get back to North America, you might not even be able to understand my Oz slang. Nah...probably not; I still talk like an American and say "eh?!".
