Palm Sunday in ROME

From Whirlwind Trip of Europe in Rome, Italy on Mar 31 '07

Being in Rome during Easter is insanity.  We did acknowledge that we would be putting ourselves here during one of the busiest times of the year for Rome, but it is still hard to comprehend.  So, we have made a great decision NOT to go to the Vatican City on the Palm Sunday as to not get trampled by thousands upon thousands of devout Catholics.

On the other hand we have decided to go see all of the Piazza's in the city and other little places we could walk to.

Gelatto Flavors of the day: mandarin not great, lemon really good, strawberry fantastic, cream...oh not so good, pear was okay and one other that i just can't remember....yes...how could i forget a flavor... I don't know.  But it was enjoyed nevertheless.

We started at the Capitilani Museum where we got to see the great Marcus Aurelius on horseback and the giant foot and head of Constantine.  There is also the famous Romulus and Remus twins that are sucking at the She Wolf.  Yes, they are only legend, but still very important.  Then there were the geese that saved Capitilani Hill by warning the Romans that the Gauls were trying to invade.

Our tour of Rome started with the Piazza Novonna, Piazza Spagna and a few others... believe me, there are more than you can name.  One of my favorites was the Trevi Fountain which juts out from the walls of the building.  The sculptures were such a beautiful white and the water was a crisp blue.  You could almost sit and stare at it for hours if it was not swarming with people.  We threw our pennies in so that we would come back to Rome.  We walked around and checked out some cool shoe stores, but the prices were not so cool.  People in Europe have the nicest shoes.. but I don't know how they afford them.

The Pantheon has the largest dome I have ever seen.  It is so simply, but the size just makes it that much more grand.  And all of the marble on the floors and walls came from the Roman Forum because people thought it would be used in better places.  So, the Forum and the Collosseum became a correy of marble.  Then on to the Trajans colomne and a few more piazzas.  Then, we decided to take the bus around the city.  We hopped on one and just rode.  An hour later our bus stopped way our somewhere in the city we are not too sure where still.  ANd we hopped onto another one and went to the Collosseum where we got to walk down the main street since they close it for that Sunday.  It was great as the sun was setting.  Ohhh and I almost forgot that we went to the Isola Tibernia which is a little island in the middle of Rome.

Then to end a great day we had the Pizza Margerite!!!
