Blair Atholl is my first real castle that I've been through.  Its almost down near Perth, about 160km south of Gil. It took us about an hour and a half to drive down and as are all the trip over here it was very pretty.  This is the highlands in full force up through the snowy areas, although very little snow this year.  The colours of the hills are intriguing with blues and whites in the background and all shades of reds and browns in the foregrounds and then different dark shades of green from the pines and even almost a purple, maroon colour from some other sort of tree that Gil doesn't know the name of.  It all makes for an overwhealming diplay of colour and all within winter.

The castle was more like an overgorwn house but with turrets.  All inside was redeveloped during the Victorian period and the outside has been redone several time but now looks like a castle again.  Some of the walls are apparently 12feet thick and the rooms with these walls are exceptionally cold.  That's in one of the oldest parts of the castle.

It has amazing grounds too with woods and creeks and deer and highland cattle. We went wandering all over with Teagan running around sniffing everything.  I swear you can just take dogs anywhere over here.

The thing that really intriqued me  in the house was the weapons room with thousands of swords (literally) and guns and lances displayed on the wall and even a knight in shining armour.  I have no idea how they would ride in that but they did, for that matter you'd almost need a crane just to get on the horse and then you really have to feel sorry for the horse itself.

From there we headed back up towards Inverness and stopped off at the ski fields so that I could play in the snow in the middle of our summer.  I really really do like snow. I just turn into this little kid when it come to snow.

Or what about this highland coo?

Looking back from the ski fields over another Loch from the top of snow topped mountains is defintely something to remember.
