First trip to Kentucky
From Horse country in Richmond, United States on Jul 05 '05
My first trip to Kentucky was a couple of years ago, just after my friend moved back there with her parents. Patricia is about my size(although not at the time, she was 7 months pregnant and already looked fit to pop) and we actually look a bit alike. We also act alike, so I feel bad for her family when we're together.
Patricia's boyfriend had just moved up there in May, so the three of us and their one year old son stayed in their room together. I can't tell you how much fun it is to try and be quiet when you're going to bed in order to not wake the baby. We went to the mall one day and checked all the little shops. It's not a very big mall, but at the time they had a lovely little Asian shop. It had kimonos and those wooden sandals that I can't remember the name of, little dolls and all sorts of breakable things we had to keep the little one out of. We also went a few other stores, like Hastings, which is kind of like Suncoast, but my friend loves to talk about it. It had some of the funniest and strangest little knicknacks there. Like it had just a touch of Spencer's to it.
We went to Wal-Mart (because being 20 at the time, we were real Wally World fiends. Still are actually.) and had to coo at all the cute baby things for Andrew and the still unborn Johnathan. I bought her sister some Wasabi peas because she wanted to know what they tasted like. Of course, once we got out to the car, Hillary let me know she didn't even like peas. That girl is crazy, but I love her anyway. And everyone had a good laugh when we stopped at Blockbuster and I couldn't shut the van door, but Hillary could on the first try.
Most of the time though, we spent at the house playing with Andrew and watching all the shows Patricia had taped for me (she has satellite and I have cable, so she tapes the good stuff and saves it for when I came to visit). We did get up and make breakfast each morning though. And we took a lovely walk down to the corner store to get ice cream and soda. I will warn you though, sodas and sippy cups don't mix. I was pushing Andrew in the stroller and Patricia had poured some of her root beer in Andrew's cup and he shook it. Darren and I were covered in little flecks of root beer the rest of the day.
We did take a trip or two to her grandparents house. We went over one day while Darren was at work and everyone had ribs and I got to meet the rest of the family. The oldest great-grandchild was about 6, I think, Andrew being the next oldest at just over a year old. But that little girl just adores attention and was hanging on me to the point she almost pushed me into my plate of food. But she did try and help keep Andrew out of everything breakable at the house. Now that was an adventure.
