Fantastic Philippines
From Asian Adventures in Manila, Philippines on Mar 16 '06
Arrived in Manila after 2 flights. Had to go via Taiwan to get to the Philippines,
Ednas friend Gladdis picked me up from the airport, I had to wait 3hrs but was good fun people watching. The security men were chatting away to me too.
Pigs Intestines!
The main lanuage in the Philippines is Tagalog(spanish/asian) and English is their 2nd. Most people speak english very well.
We went out for dinner on my 1st night in Manila. Went to a place called "Kenny Rodgers"! I said there is an American singer called that and Edna replied "yes he owns the place" How funny! I aint even seen Kenny Rodgers restaurants in the USA and here they are in the Philippines. His food was well tasty though ;o)
Spent the 1st day in Manila exploring the Spanish walled city of Intramurous. Its really lovely. We went into the Manila Cathedral which is massive. There was a wedding on and we ended up watching part of the ceremony, cool. The bride walked down the ailse herself and her parents met her half way down, Its a new things being introduced over in the Philippines. Everywhere we went there were weddings on, unbelievable! We hired a Kalesa(horse and carriage) for a few hours. We were taken around Intramurous which was lovely. We vistied Fort Santiago,San Agustin, Rizal Shrine and a few other places.
Later that nigth Edna took me out for dinner and drinks with her friends. It was a good night out. I tried lots of Philippino food including fried pigs intestines! Lovely eh!
Day 2 Sunday 19th March
Today i got to ride on the local transportation. I rode the Jeepney( old army truck with low ceilings converted into a wee bus) and the tricycle(motorbike and sidecar!) to Ednas work. That was fun, very bumpy roads. We spent the afternoon wandering around some malls and eating. The we packed for our early flight to Bohol :o)
