After picking up our rental car (metallic pink Dihatsu Terrios 4x4... as cool as it sounds...), we made haste for Playa del Coco. Everyone said it would take 5 to 6 hours. We were there in 4 hours flat. First introduction to notoriously bad Costa Rican roads? Us: 1 Roads: 0.
After traveling all day and finally arriving at Brennan´s amazing house (www.casaholmes.com), we promptly went out for drinks (including a round of flaming shots at Zouk's!) in Coco for his brother Blake´s birthday. Coco is a lot bigger than we expected and is a pretty ok little town.

The next day was Thanksgiving. We woke up to a burst pipe flooding our bottom-floor apartment (neighbor cranked up water pressure way too high) and earned our keep a little by cleaning up the mess. Meredith and I went down to the beach afterward and kayaked and played in the water for a good long while. Everything was so gorgeous... the beach, the area, the house and view, etc.! We cleaned up and went to the Catfish Farm (restaurant and working catfish farm) for an awesome Thanksgiving dinner (which was actually typical American fare - no catfish).

On Friday, the Holmes´ had booked a boat trip with Captain John (and skipper Tony) on the Drums of Bora and we set out early in the morning. We sailed around (at times with a dolphin swimming with the boat and scratching its back on the hull) to several bays, past the amazing Four Seasons complex where we saw Michael Jordan´s house, Monkey Head rock, and finally landed on Egg Beach (not sure if that's the official name... or if it has one) which was a beautiful deserted beach. We got to check out a couple caves, some tide pools, and did some cool snorkeling (saw an eel and a bunch of tropical fish). That night we bought a ton of groceries and the Holmes´maid, Rosa, prepared an awesome dinner for everyone.
