A Day in the City

We went into the city twice -- one on our way to a soccer game (the team name was something like 'Breun,' which means lightning in Norwegian) and another time simply to wander the streets and (in Katinka's case) make small purchases. We took the train from a desolate train stop fringed in greenery near Katinka's house. The train stops underground in the city itself, and all we had to do was walk up a few flight of stairs to find ourselves staring down the rolling, cobbled main street of the urban center.

The number of peddlars we passed with carts containing shirt pins was countless. Most of them were in English, and the ones that weren't, Katinka translated for me easily. She picked them up, flicking them between her pointer finger and her thumb, announcing "lesbian priests are cute" or "George Bush is poop," depending on the pin.
