The first true leg of our RTW trip began in Australia, as we landed in Darwin on 2 July.

The first ten or so days we rented a 4x4 and drove 2,500k through the outback to Uluru, the magical red rock featured in many Oz postcards.

Then we flew from Uluru to Cairns, the great barrier reef diving capital, and drove from Cairns to Byron Bay, which is 600k from Sydney.  We flew to Sydney from Byron Bay due to shitty weather on the east coast and our yearning for civilization.
