There isn’t too much in the guidebooks for Wilmington, Delaware that isn’t in some way affiliated with the DuPont family. We toured the DuPont’s original house and black powder factory, and took a look at some of the other things that the company has turned out over the years. Although I appreciate the pioneer Research&Development spirit of the company, I can’t say that the invention of polyester is as glamorous as it used to be. (Not to mention, the many ways that the company has found to integrate plastic into our lives may now be causing more than a few cancers. Ah well!)

We also took a tour of the Historical society (which is very, VERY proud that Delaware was the first state to ratify the Constitution, as evidenced by their huge #1 ribbons everywhere) and had dinner down by the Riverfront.
After that there wasn’t too much else for us in Delaware, so we hit the road for Maryland.
