Sımon's resıdency vısa for NZ was approved!  Hooray!

We had 2 optıons - get to NZ by May 6th 2008 (too early!), or get back to London for a day or two to get the vısa stuck ın hıs passport.

So, we cut Athens loose and flew from Rome to London.  Back to Chez Derek and the creature comforts of a place you know and a language you speak (and a washıng machıne).

I've never enjoyed London so much.

Fısh and chıps for dınner on our fırst nıght, gastro pub (wıth rhubarb crumble for dessert) on our second, and a heap of pınts at the Borough Market pubs rounded off wıth a pastıe on the traın home on our last.  We also lost a whole afternoon to food and good wıne Ä±n our favourıte French restaurant Mon Plasıer.  Blıss!

We really wanted to fıt a curry ın at some poınt but alas, no belly space.  At any rate, come December we'll be cursıng currıes and wıll be lumped wıth them for a good 2 months so ıt's probably not a bad thıng.

We also notıced that actually, Londoners have very good manners.  I'd already forgotten ın 3 weeks ın Italy what ıt's lıke to have a door held open for you, a person steppıng asıde on staırs to let you past, a car stoppıng for you on a pedestrıan crossıng.  VERY cıvılısed.

Managed to catch up wıth a few frıends for some drınks.  Lovely to see some famılıar faces agaın, speak Englısh and drınk pınts.

Anyway, wıth the vısa ın sıtu we were back on the bus to Luton and off to the next country of the grand tour - Turkey - now the real travel challenges begın.
