Wrap up
From Argentina in Bennington, United States on Aug 22 '07
Well, hello out there, it has occured to me that I have never provided a summation to my trip journals, for this I apologize, but given the circumstances, I would assume it is understandable. In brief, I left Argentina, and traveled back through Bolivia, went for a smoothie in La Paz, and then back to Peru for some ceviche, the national fish dish. By this point of my journey, I was backtracking and making it a point to dine on all that would soon become unavailable, or just too expensive. In a bit more detail, when I went back to Bolivia, I toured the south more than before, I stopped off at the salar de Uyuni, which proved to be one of the most spectacular things I have ever seen. An enormous sea of salt, 100's of miles deep. To walk about in the salt covered land is quite disorienting, the land blending into the sky. The trip was amazing if not cold, but with time running short, the end of my trip was more of a mad dash than anything. By the time I made it back to Peru, I did not have much time to tour around, and after spending two days wandering about in Cuzco, I was back to Lima for one day, then in one sleepless push, I suddenly found myself back in the states. It was a little disappointing to stop speaking Spanish, I found myself continuously seeking opportunities to challenge my linguistic abilities. But, as is expected, time has moved on and it was time for me to start moving forward to the next Journey.
I spent about three weeks at home catching up with my friends and family, planning for my trip, and of course, I took a little time to do some Mountaineering, rafting, mountain biking, and some hiking. After traveling so long, I was ready take advantage of the natural splendor that my own country has to offer. Currently I am sitting in a public library in Bennington Vermont, having hiked from Mt. Katadin in Maine, approx. 580 miles over 5 weeks. My destination, Springer mountain, Georgia. That is right, I am thru-hiking the Appalachian trail. Trail life has been good. There are not as many opportunities to visit internet cafe's, and I have taken a huge hit in my smoothie diet, but that aside, the mountains are spectacular. In Maine, I saw 8 mice (or moose, if you would like to be grammatically correct), and just the other day, I had a 400 lb. black bear walk through my camp in the morning, 20 feet from my shelter, I watched him in silence as he strolled by, meandering through the Vermont forest. But, with the daylight hours burning, I need to get back out on the trail, so I wish the best of luck to you all, and happy trails. Until next time
