Day 1 Headliner: Marilyn Manson
From Greenfield Music Festival in Interlaken in Interlaken, Switzerland on Jun 14 '07
My boss wasn't around on Friday. Well truthfully she wasn't around all week so I decided to take half the day off on Friday and then head down to Interlaken early. I went home at noon and packed the clothes I was going to bring for the weekend. Turns out I am the pack mule for the house so I brought the tent and the biggest sleeping bag (not the best, just the biggest). Anyway I met up with Jaana (Kristen's friend) at the house and we left for the train station where we met up with a bunch of people heading to the concert. It was a little bit rainy and cool but the forecast for the weekend was sunny and hot.
The train ride to Interlaken was about 2 hours long and was a lot of fun. When we finally got to Interlaken we quickly stopped by the store to pick up some essentials, beer (lots of beer) and food. Then onto one of the shuttle buses to the concert, which was on a small old airport which had a very military feel to it, just outside of the town.
Once there and through the front gates we made our way to the other people there who were saving some space for us to set up tents. They went down to Interlaken on Thursday night because apparently they had nothing better to do.
Anyway, the girls were originally going to share a tent that Nate was bringing from Zurich but turns out that that tent was broken. So I ended up cramming 4 people into the tent I brought, it was supposed to be a three person tent.
A quick setup of the tent and we headed to the stage to watch Slayer. Much to my dismay when we got to the security checkpoint into the stage area they had somehow managed to build up a HUGE line, it must have been at least 5000 people long. Needless to say everyone was quite upset about this line and it wasn't long before people knocked the fence down and ran into the grounds. This made it very easy for me to smuggle my beer into the show.
Slayer played a good set, they aren't really my type of music but they do put on quite a show. There was mud EVERYWHERE, the grounds were a swamp. Everywhere I stepped I would sink and get mud all over my socks and pants. It was all very Woodstock-esque.
Finally when Marilyn Manson came on to close out the evening I was fairly intoxicated. He put on a good show also, but I was really hoping he would do something shocking that he is famous for. Oh well, no such luck. After Manson it was time to head back to the tents and try to get some sleep. I didn't sleep much that night, ended up staying up quite late and probably got to sleep around 5am.
