Whistler, sea to sky
From The Great Canadian Roadtrip in Whistler, Canada on Sep 24 '06
I went on a day trip up to whistler with the two guys from the hostel. The drive up the was scenic enough on what they grandly call the sea to sky highway. Only problem was there was too much road works going on. I hadn't realised this before but the village of whistler is was built especially for the ski slopes there and has only being around since the 1980's. The village itself is kept in pristine condition and mainly consists of outlet designed to part the tourist from their money so most places are pretty expensive. We did find a nice meat pie take away run by an English guy that was able to fill us up without emptying our pockets. Since it was shoulder season up there it was a bit quieter up there but it also meant that the gondola the runs up the mountain wasn't working(only at the weekend) so we were left to do a hike on our own power, which was average. I suppose i have being spoilt with the Rockies. We did that for a couple of hours and headed by to Vancouver for another night on the tiles.
