Tuesday Comes Early
From Saint Martin 2008 in Saint Maarten, Antigua and Barbuda on Dec 22 '08
Tuesday came early at 6:30. After Cinda feed us a great egg sandwich breakfast we were off to our second day of diving in a row. Really did not want to do it this way but the forecast called for 15 foot seas for the rest of the week. Do not get me wrong the weather is fantastic sunny with a breeze. But that breeze makes for big waves.
Down Goes Nikon !! - Ah Its only a Black Eye.
We motored over to the western leeward side of the island were we hit the water. Much more relaxed this dive. You can see from the pics we were “ham in it up” for the camera.
Seems my brother and nephews have turned into Diving Nazi’s. The diving is ok down here. The bottom is feeling the effects of too much development and hurricane Felix. With the high winds vizz had dropped to around 60 feet. With that said on our second dive we found a big Maura eel and a lobster in ten minutes. We had to cut it short since the only had a small dive cylinder for brother. Poor guy was down to 300 lbs when we still were at 1000. Divemaster Nimo had to save him. We were all looking at him wondering what was going on - Hell of a way to go.
My treasured Nikon toke a “black eye” on the return boat ride. Thank goodness it was just the filter lens. Seems to still work – we will see.
We hit the main street in Phillipsburg. What a difference a cruise ship or two makes. The first day “not a creature stirred in the night”. This time thousands of overweight white Americans with their red wrist bands “stormed “the town. The finishing touch was ten Segways going by in column formation all with yellow hard hats. I think that finished me on never to go on a cruise.
Christa and I went into town later to grocery shop. Very strange – every thing from the states is big money. $ 11 for some bacon. Forget that. Lettuce way to much – forget that. Then you get the beer aisle. Hell it is cheaper than water. $ 16 for a case . We will take two please.
To cut back I dropped the Heineken and went to local “Carib” beer ( Corona like ). Christa pointed out it was 5.2%. So much for that.
That afternoon we saw our dive boat being towed in - guess we got off just in time.
Got this great picture of sailboat rounding the corner from the balcony.
I walked around the point this evening. Up close on the first floor you can see the sister resort Diva took it hard from Felix with about 50 rooms still out of commission.
Back at the room . Christa still asleep for four hours. Lauren on Facebook and Skype for two hours. Mom in bed. Went down and had a “Cheeseburger in Paradise “at the hotel bar and then called it a night.
Till Tomorrow
Nick
