San Francisco 2007
From California in San Francisco, United States on Jun 07 '07
friday - we started by having a delicious breakfast at the van ness bakery. we then headed to the fisherman's warf area. along with seeing a submarine and a huge battleship, we also went into a free museum of very early arcade games/machines, all of which were working and only a quarter. it was so awesome! then we walked along the entire strip of piers and found ourselves at pier 39 where we watched the sea lions and soaked up the atmosphere. we did the whole tourist trap thing and bought teeshirts and keychains and various other san francisco items. after that, we drove around the city and saw the coit tower on telegraph hill, grace cathedral, st peter and paul cathedral, and many gorgeous victorian homes. we then went to the haight ashbury district and went shopping on haight street. we went to amoeba (where i spent about a hundred dollar on random music) and ate at escape from new york pizza (there is a signed poster on the wall from many great bands including siouxsie and budgie of the creatures and siouxsie and the banshees). we then visited the golden gate bridge and fort point (where a scene from the movie vertigo was filmed). we saw the greatful dead's house, the jefferson airplane house, and the house where charles manson brainwashed his impressionable devils children. lol. after that, we drove most of the 49 mile drive and saw some amazing sights, including seal rock, the palace of fine arts, the legion of honor museum, a huge windmill, golden gate park, and more. after the drive we found ourselves in the legendary castro (gay) district at a great record store called streetlight records. we walked castro street on a friday night, which was a hoot. all of the boys were out and about and clubbing. we ate at subway right on the corner of castro and market, next to the "boy bar". the strip was booming! after dinner, we went up to twin peaks, were it was way too dark and foggy to see even 5 feet in front of us. by that point it was too late for anything else, so we retreated at our hotel.
saturday - we went to the shoreline ampitheatre for the live 105 BFD festival. this is the same place where ive seen the cure and depeche mode previously. we saw tiger army, shiny toy guns, the faint, kaiser chiefs, interpol, social distortion, bloc party and more. it was an amazing time. most of the time we stayed in the shade. im good at finding dark places. haha. the whole time was so romantic. i really enjoyed myself. we got a bit of sunburn on our faces, but it was well worth it. the bands were fabulous. they inspired me to want to play live with bella lune soon, so we are talking about the logistics of that now as well. it was a great show all around!
Amazing Trip with a fantastic Festival concert
sunday - we started at the van ness bakery again, because it was so good the first time. then we went to berkeley to visit the amoeba records there and rasputin records and the various other neat little shoppes on telegraph street. i got to eat fat slice (pizza) again which made me extremely happy. that place is SO good. we went on the bay bridge which is HUGE! it takes about ten minutes to get across the whole thing, which is kind of scary in case of earthquake but we were safe. when we got back into san francisco, we drove around and saw more victorian houses, sights, and churches. we saw the famous "filmore" concert venue, japantown, the gorgeous haas lillenthal victorian house, and the "painted ladies" on steiner. these are the row of victorian houses with the view of the city skyline in the background that is the picture of san francisco (ie. the theme song/intro of full house). we took a ton of pictures, which are on erics flickr photo page now (i will link it below). we also went back to twin peaks which is a very tall mountain in the middle of the city with a spectacular view. we decided to visit the golden gate bridge again, and actually go over it this time. we found ourselves in sausalito, which is an extremely charming hidden town just north of san francisco. after that, we went to pier 39 again to close out the night. we saw the sun go down and got to watch the sea lions again. and i of course spent a bunch more money on crap. we were in san francisco after all! a funny thing that happened was a seagull swooped down and stole an ice cream in a waffle bowl that i was eating. in .5 seconds my ice cream had disappeared right from my hands. it was a trip! we had such an amazing time. it was extremely romantic and gorgeous!
monday - we went back to the haight ashbury district to start the day with breakfast. we saw more victorian homes and sights and took more pictures. since we had a plane to catch, we didnt have much time on monday. we made a trip to powell and market where union square is and i got blondies pizza and spent more money at the rasputin records in san francisco. after that, we went to chinatown and walked all along grant street. the stores over there are awesome! very charming. after chinatown, we headed to the airport and got on the plane for home....
it was a dream trip... it couldnt have been better!!!
