Because my ticket required me to fly out of Narita, I took the cross-country Shinkansen ride to Tokyo.  I asked for a seat on the left side to better view Fuji-san as we passed but they were sold out.  It didn't matter because I caught a glimpse and even though the top fourth was nicely covered with snow, the smog took away from the visual appeal.

I headed for Shinjuku in order to see the Shinjuku Gyoen (Garden), my last chance to view sakura.  Tokyo's sakura started blooming almost a week before Kyoto's so the peak had long passed.  The garden had various shades of sakura (white, pink, dark pink, yellow, green) and different types (single layer, multi-layer, weeping tree) all within a short walk.

Since I had time to kill before my flight, I walked around Shinjuku, from the south-east side Garden, to the east side Kabukicho, the adult entertainment center (quite tame during the day), to the west skyscraper side, and finally the new high-class south side with the Times Square Department store area.  Finally it was time to take the train out to Narita and say sayonara.
