Stop five. South West Rocks
From Start of Australian road trip in Arakoon, Australia on Mar 06 '07
It's funny the difference between the people you meet in the different towns. I know this to be true even travelling about in between Manchester and Sheffield back home (a 2 hour drive at the most). We called in at a place called Kempsey on the way up to South West Rocks. The people in Kempsey were a bit like.... hard in there faces. When we'd walk into shops for example the shop keepers would ignore us but let on to all the locals who walked in. If people didn't make eye contact with us then they would stare.
South West Rocks on the other hand everyone smiles and says hello as you're walking down the street or into their shops. If I was sat there having a cuppa or a beer people will try to engage me in conversation. It probably sounds like I'm having a go at Kempsey. I'm not.
