Patrick and I won a trip to Cuba right after our return from San Francisco and decided that we would start 2006 on a beach.  What a wise decision!

We stayed in Veradero at the Sandals Pricessa Del Mar resort.  The resort was amazing, beautiful and a great adult only resort.  Unfortunately the food in Cuba, not just at our resort, leaves a lot to be desired.  Because the country can't trade with America, its closest neighbour, most of the food was quite bland.

While in Cuba we took one afternoon to duck into Veradero.  Not really a necessary sight but taking a CoCo Cab, which actually looks like a coconut, was well worth it.  The CoCo Cab is a motorized scooter with a plastic coconut shell glued to it, and you sit in the coconut.  The scooter doesn't get too fast because it is really only designed to cope with the body weight of one person and bicycles can overtake it, but just the experience was too funny to pass up.

We also took a catameran tour and swam with the dolphins.  It had always been my dream to swim with the dolphins and we lucked out going on a perfect day.  Unfortunately for me, I got head butted by a dolphin and ended up with a really bad charlie horse for the rest of our trip.  Funny story, painful moment.

Our last full day we went into Havana.  What a trip!  It was like walking into a city that was stuck in the 1950s.  Poverty ran rampant, but everything seemed so cheerful because the whole city is painted in pastels.
