After 4 months of running around until after 10 pm and enjoying the freedom of choosing each day what we would do to entertain ourselves, the long awaited day to return to school has arrived.  Both Megan and Luca were extremely excited (so was I !!!).  Megan was perhaps a little bit more nervous, her main concern was that she might be put in a calss where everybody was tiny and she looked like a giant.  Luca was just plain excited, no hesitations, worries or concerns at all.

They had their uniforms set out on the sofa the night before and chose what to take in their cool lunchboxes.  We arrived and I took Megan into her class.  She was a bit tentative at first, but a little girl that she met at the pool beside our house recognised her and immediately told her where to sit and that was it.  The girlies sit in a group at the back of the class and I am sure talk too much.  She came out of school soooo excited saying she LOVED it and Mr Collins (or "Mr C" as he likes to be known) is apparently the coolest teacher ever.  He wrote them all a letter telling them about himself and what he got up to during his holidays.  He seems really sweet and I think she will have an amazing yera.  She said that a boy already told her he fancies her! which I probably shouldn't tell anybody or she will kill me.  Today she started learning Maori and Mr C is apparently very keen to teach them lots of it whcih is very exciting.  She starts a dancing class next wednesday and then we'll see what afterschool activities she wants to join.  There seems to be an endless choice!

Luca on the other hand went in with Evan.  He has a scottish teacher called Mrs Oxley, who is also gorgeous.  He waved us gooodbye from his desk and stared at a few of the kids that were crying  as if to say "What!?".  He came out shattered   but also really happy.  They have a playground all to themselves just outside their classroom so that they get used to being in the school before they are let loose into the huge playing fields.  They have to wear their sunhats outside or they are not allowed out, and they eat their lunch under the shade of a big chestnut tree.  He has made some friends but being Luca cannot remember their nmaes yet, except for Jayden who sits in the same table as him.  I drove Evan to work and cried all the way there.  I didn't feel quite the same when Megan started primary but I think its because she was so very ready and Luca is still a bit dependat I guess on me.  Actually I know that a few members of my family (ie mum and Moina especially) will be thinking about time I let him go and he is more than capable of being a bit more independat, but what can I say, you are right but he's my little boy!, all right?  Evan and I had a nice peaceful coffee and a chat near his work and we both felt very strange.Today when the bell rang he kissed me and ran to his seat like he had been at school for months so it just goes to show.

We couldn't have asked for a better start for them both and I am really pleased, although feeling a little bit redundant!.
