After the natural splendour of Ilha do Mel, I returned to Curitba to explore the man made beauties of the parks around the city. I was staying in a room with the two Brasilian girls I had met on the island.

I have never been in a city with so many different themed parks! There were parks dedicated to the native people, parks dedicated to native plants and even parks dedicated to settlers of the region. We went to about 5 different ones and had we had more time there were many more to explore. I will just tell you about my favourite park there... the park was dedicated to the german settlers of the region. It had a cute german style house at the entrance to the park and then you walked across a bridge to a tower which you had to descend to get to the rest of the park. The tower was set amongst a thickly forested area and as you went down the towers staircase you felt a quick shiver in the sheer temperature difference. The staircase was met by a path that told the story of 'Hansel and Gretel' or Joao e Maria as the Brazilians call it! It was a gorgeous cobbled pathway with little huts telling another snippet of the story. They even had a cute little house in the woods that was supposed to be their house. It was so much fun I felt like a little kid again!
