Beer that has to age...who knew?
From Discover Holland Trip in Nijmegen, Netherlands on Feb 11 '06
So another bus ride with a lot of sleeping. And then we were there. I think everybody was ready to head home, but we weren't in charge. The Brewery Tour started with him telling us a little history about the place. Apparently he had another brewery that did very well but it got to big so he sold it and started this smaller one. This one was also doing well but he didn't want it to get very big so he only sells the beer at his store. Anyway he showed us how they make beer and then he let us see all the tanks and bottling rooms. It was really cool. Also he told us that the unused beer he turns into vinegar. And the unused vinegar he turns into mustard. Who knew? We finished in a little room where he brought us free beer. All in all we tasted 5 different brews varying in alcohol content and the spices used. It was a lot of fun. I ended up buying some mustard and a beer that has to age for 5 years before I can drink it. So that puts it at 2010 since it was brewed in 2005.
Our "last supper" was as this good Italian restaurant. I had lasagna and it was pretty good. We met some people from spain and Great Britian. After dinner the ESN said goodbye and we were placed back on the bus home.
I didn't get a good picture of a windmill
Final Thought: Discover Holland was not as good as I had expected, but it was better than staying at the Guest House for the weekend. We did get to visit a lot of different cities but I only got to see most of them at night. I did enjoy traveling on the double decker bus and I didn't spend that much money which is always a plus. One other thing, I didn't get a good picture of a windmill. I saw a few but it was in the bus and it was gone before I had a chance to take the shot. Oh well, I still have a couple months!Â
