Hoi An
From Southeast Asia Summer 2006 in Hoi An, Vietnam on Aug 01 '06
We love Hoi An! We arrived late afternoon and by the time we got settled it was dark and everything was so pretty! Lanterns light up the streets and georgeous restaurants line the river front and paths. We went for dinner to a place with a set menu (recommended by our trusty lonely planet) and had white rose (one of the Hoi An specialities-sort of a prawn dumpling in a shape of a rose), crab soup, spicy noodles, and sting ray! All in all it was very yummy indeed and we went home very full. The other specialities in Hoi An are fried wonton and cao lao- a noodle dish that we have yet to try.
The next day, we went and had breakfast in a nice cafe on the riverfront and then rented out some bikes and rode to the beach. We spent the day there, eating pineapple and having massages! Back in Hoi An, we wandered around the market and Chris got his hair cut-it actually turned out alright despite scary scissor snipping and we got all the dead skin taken off our feet....lovely.
The main thing Hoi An is famous for is for tailoring. It has over 200 tailor shops and after our friends had recommended us one, we went the next morning and got fitted and came out with Chris: 2 shirts and 2 suit trousers = 40 pounds Suzie (don't shout Mum)= a shirt, 2 smart trousers, a ball dress and a coat =70 pounds.
Tonight we leave for Nha Trang on the night bus (joy) so next update there. love to you all, keep messaging us xx
